Made Easy Using Fry Batter Mix Pack 

Some Asian restaurants also sell pakoras by the name of onion bhaji. It is one of the delicious snacks which is eaten in every part of India at teatime or a cocktail party!

This recipe is VEGETARIAN, VEGAN FRIENDLY/ NON-DAIRY (BY SUBSTITUTING YOGURT WITH NON-DAIRY YOGURT) & SPICES HAVE NO ADDED GLUTEN.

NOTES: One can make the pakoras with one vegetable or a mixture of vegetables. These deep-fried snacks taste delicious and are extremely addictive with a great aroma of gram flour or besan (chickpea flour) and spices (not hot).

  • PREP TIME: 15 min         

  • COOK TIME: 15 min

  •  TOTAL TIME: 30 min         

  • YIELD: 6 servings (32-36 pieces)

USING FRY BATTER MIX PACK  

  • 1 ½ cups thinly sliced onions

  • 1 cup thinly diced or sliced potatoes 

  • 1 cup cauliflower, cut up into small pieces

  • 2 cups spinach, cut up   

  • 1/2 cup cilantro, cut up  (Optional)

  •  ½ cup yogurt or (dairy free yogurt) 

  •  ¼ cup water (only if the pakora batter mix is hard to mix)    

  •  1 tsp green chilis cut up into small pieces  or ¼ tsp cayenne or any other hot chili powder  (Optional)

  • For spice levels: ¼ tsp for mild, ½ tsp for medium and 1 tsp for hot  

  1. Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl. Slowly mix the flour mixture into the onion and vegetable mixture and mix well. If needed add some water to the mixture for easy mixing. (Please make sure the batter vegetable mixture is not too soft) 

  2. Place oil in a deep frying pan (skillet) or deep fryer and heat it to 350 degrees. 

  3. Put one tbsp of mixture into the hot oil and fry 7 or 8 pakoras together. 

  4. When they are lightly brown on all sides keep pressing and turning them over until golden brown. 


Serving Recommendations

Serve hot with mint, tamarind or any other chutney or ketchup. Left over pakoras can be reheated in toaster oven or grilled the next day or one can freeze them for later. Wrap them in a slice of bread or chapati and enjoy eating them with a cup of tea.
